<p><span style="font-family: var(--bs-body-font-family); font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size); text-align: var(--bs-body-text-align);"><b>Jakarta, 29 September 2023</b></span><span style="font-family: var(--bs-body-font-family); font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size); font-weight: var(--bs-body-font-weight); text-align: var(--bs-body-text-align);"> – The 2023 High-Level Meeting of Archipelagic and Island States Forum, scheduled to take place in Bali on 10—11 October 2023 will be attended by seven heads of state/government.&nbsp;</span><br></p><p>"The seven heads of state/government that will attend are those from the Comoros, the Federated States of Micronesia, Madagascar, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe, and Timor-Leste," said the Director General for Multilateral Cooperation at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tri Tharyat, at a press conference in Jakarta, Friday, 29 September.&nbsp;</p><p>Fiji and Tonga will be represented by their Deputy Prime Ministers, while the Marshall Islands, Seychelles, Singapore, and Solomon Islands will send their ministers to the 2023 HLM of the AIS Forum.&nbsp;</p><p>Other countries, such as New Zealand, Cyprus, Iceland, Japan, Samoa, and the United Kingdom are planning to send their high-ranking officials and ambassadors.&nbsp;</p><p>"We are still waiting for confirmation (of attendance) of (representatives from) from Belize, Cook Islands, Malta, and Sri Lanka," said Tri.&nbsp;</p><p>He said that as the host, Indonesia has invited 51 countries to participate in the 1st High-Level Meeting of the AIS Forum. The Forum has previously held five ministerial conferences and eight senior official meetings.&nbsp;</p><p>According to Tri, the 1st HLM of the AIS Forum will become an important part of Indonesia's maritime diplomacy, which finds its roots in the so-called "Bandung Spirit" which prioritizes solidarity, equality, and mutually beneficial cooperation.&nbsp;</p><p>In addition, the 1st HLM is expected to produce a real inclusive partnership from the Global South, countries located on the southern part of the planet.&nbsp;</p><p>"This 1st HLM is expected to produce a Leaders' Declaration that has been discussed in Senior Official Meetings. "Indonesia will seek concrete cooperation with archipelagic countries in various regions," said Tri.&nbsp;</p><p>"Several pilot projects have been carried out in both Fiji and Madagascar, and similar projects&nbsp;<span style="font-family: var(--bs-body-font-family); font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size); font-weight: var(--bs-body-font-weight); text-align: var(--bs-body-text-align);">(collaboration) will also be&nbsp;</span><span style="font-family: var(--bs-body-font-family); font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size); font-weight: var(--bs-body-font-weight); text-align: var(--bs-body-text-align);">developed with other island countries," he added.&nbsp;</span></p><p>Apart from participating countries, the 1st HLM will also be attended by the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).&nbsp;</p><p>The 1st High-Level Meeting of the AIS Forum in Bali will discuss global issues related to maritime affairs with the theme, "Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Our Future”.&nbsp;</p><p>As host, Indonesia is pushing and focusing on three aspects, namely blue economy development, the climate change challenge, and strengthening solidarity between island and archipelagic countries. Seven Heads of State to Attend 2023 HLM of the AIS Forum

Jakarta, 29 September 2023 – The 2023 High-Level Meeting of Archipelagic and Island States Forum, scheduled to take place in Bali on 10—11 October 2023 will be attended by seven heads of state/government.
