MCI Launches AISPedia to Improve Public Understanding of AIS Forum

Jakarta, 2 October 2023 – The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (MCI) launched an electronic handbook containing information and content from the 1st High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum.

MCI’s Director General of Public Information and Communications Usman Kansong said that the e-book called AISPedia can be accessed at https://s.id/aispedia.

AISPedia is a continuation of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics’ duty of maintaining public communication efforts. Previously, the MCI launched G20Pedia and ASEANPedia in the context of Indonesia's Chairmanship in the G20 forum in 2022 and ASEAN in 2023.

In a slightly different role, Indonesia takes the initiative to convene and bring together the AIS Forum participating countries to discuss global maritime issues at the 1st HLM of the AIS Forum.

"We must also promote the 2023 HLM of the AIS Forum widely so that the public knows that Indonesia is currently taking the initiative to bring archipelagic and island countries together and discuss various important issues. To improve information dissemination and its benefits for society, we introduce AISPedia," said Usman in Jakarta, Monday, 2 October.

Usman said that AISPedia will continue the MCI’s tradition of providing information, data, and other content in a comprehensive, fast, credible, and up-to-date manner.

"However, it is equally important that the e-book should serve as a catalyst for the public to get involved and play a role in every international forum where Indonesia is trusted as the host. At least, they should show their support to ensure that the event is successful and becomes something to be proud of," said Usman.

AISPedia is continuously updated by the Communications and Media Team with information and data for the 2023 HLM of the AIS Forum to align with the implementation of each activity's agenda. The information is presented in both English and Indonesian.

AISPedia contains news, photos, infographics, and videographics related to meetings and other aspects of this international event.

Usman Kansong also hopes that https://s.id/aispedia will not only be a source of information for the public but will also serve as a reference for mass media in seeking information related to the activities of the 1st HLM.

"The information in AISPedia will be regularly updated as needed and in accordance with developments," said Usman.

The 2023 HLM of the AIS Forum will be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on 10-11 October 2023 with the theme, "Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Our Future".

Indonesia initiated the meeting because it recognized the common challenges faced by island and archipelagic nations, highlighting the need for cooperation and collaboration.

The collaboration within the AIS Forum will benefit all participating countries, including Indonesia, through enhanced communication, sharing of experiences, and expediting the resolution of development issues by aligning perspectives on maritime issues.

The Forum will also encourage Indonesia to strengthen its relationships with other archipelagic and island countries. As the host, Indonesia will promote and focus on three areas: blue economy development, climate change challenges, and improved solidarity among archipelagic and island states.
