Media Registration for High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023 Begins on 18 September

Jakarta, 18 September 2023 – The Ministry of Communications and Informatics (MCI) officially opened the media registration for media persons who wish to cover the High-Level Meeting of Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum 2023 from 18 September to 5 October at the http://media-registration.aisforum2023.id/.

The High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023 is scheduled to be held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Badung, Bali, on 11 October.

“Registration for the media starts this afternoon or tonight and will end on 5 October. So, we urge our friends, the media, to register and be part of the event,” said Director-General of Public Information and Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Usman Kansong, in an online press conference under the theme “Preparation and Registration of the High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023” on Monday, 18 September.

Usman continued that journalists who have registered will be verified, and if accredited, they will receive an invitation e-mail from the MCI as one of the requirements to collect their media ID badge.

Registered journalists will then be included in the High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023 Media Center WhatsApp group which will provide various contents and information related to the AIS Forum including press releases of various meetings.

ID badge collection will take place from 6 to 9 October at Santika Siligita Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA). “We hope that we all will be able to disseminate information related to the High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023 together,” said Usman.

As in previous international forums, only journalists and local media verified or registered with the Press Council and have a letter of assignment to cover the High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023 issued by the media company are allowed to register to cover this event.

Journalists are also required to show an Identity Card (KTP) or other identity and sign the attendance list when collecting their ID badge.

“ID badge collection can be represented, for example, if a media sends two or more journalists, one of them can collect the ID badge from the committee for his entire team,” Usman Kansong added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics divides foreign media into three categories: Official Traveling Press, Invited Press, and Official Media.

Indonesia’s Initiative

At the same time, Assistant Deputy for Maritime Zones and Border Areas Delimitation of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), Sora Lokita, stated that the High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023 is Indonesia's initiative in addressing global maritime issues.

“In the meeting, Indonesia will lead a concrete movement to face various problems in developing the people in island and archipelagic states. The participating countries have geographical similarities, namely as archipelagic countries,” he said.

AIS Forum is a cooperation platform established to accommodate island and archipelagic states around the world to jointly address challenges and problems, especially in the marine development sector.

The High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023, said Oki as Sora Lokita is called, focuses on embracing and working together with all island and archipelagic countries, and concretely creating programs from and for the benefit of the community.

51 island and archipelagic countries will participate in the first AIS Forum Summit. ”Indonesia is considered to have the best practices in disaster management. We do not want to keep it for ourselves. We want to create a global movement where solutions to the problems of island and archipelagic countries can be mobilized from all over the world. Hopefully, this movement will become more massive, and eventually, island and archipelagic countries will be able to face challenges together,” he explained.

MCI Prepares Media Center

The Ministry of Communications and Informatics will also prepare a Media Center at the High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023, which is planned to be located near the event location, namely at Tanjung Benoa Hall, Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) on the third floor. The media center will be open for three days from 9—11 October.

The media center is scheduled to be fully operational on 7 October although it will only be officially opened on 9 October.

The High-Level Meeting of AIS Forum 2023’s media center will be prepared to serve around 500 journalists, similar to the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2022 held at the same location.

“We are also preparing for a possible surge, of up to 700 journalists, for example, although we estimate only about 500 journalists will attend,” Usman said.

The Media Center will also provide dual-language press releases (English and Bahasa Indonesia), along with photos and videos. The videos will be clean feeds, without the logos of the host broadcaster. There will also be a medical room, media kits, and designated press conference venues. In addition, the network at the Media Center will be fully supported by state-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom while the MCI’s PDSI, a cyber team from the ministry's Data Center and Informatics Facilities, and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) are working together on securing websites.

“The facilities prepared are of the standard. There are computers, LAN with high-speed internet network. There is also a stand-up position for television stations,” Usman concluded. (Ws, Baher/TR/Elvira Inda Sari)
